LATELY

Ahh, it's been a while, hasn't it? Sorry for the unexpected hiatus. I was lucky enough to be able to go back home to our friend's funeral, which was filled to the brim with people who loved him and his family, and it was indescribable to turn around from the front rows of the church and see the sea of what looked like 800+ lives this man and his family had touched.

While I was back home, I somehow got sicker than I've ever gotten in years (along with a lot of my husband's side of the family when they came to visit us in San Antonio), but I was so loved and taken care of by my sweet parents for almost an entire week.

It's sad to think that a loss of a beautiful person and extreme sickness are sometimes the only instances when I remember how precious it is to have life and health. I think after this past week, if I could only choose one adjective to describe myself, it would be grateful. And I hope I could fit that description in years to come.
Along with being grateful, I've decided it's time to slowly begin (seriously) doing the things I always said that I would do "one day," when it seemed to finally fit my schedule. What I realize now is that there is no perfect time, and the beginning will be squeaky and ugly at times. I just need to see the beauty in mistakes and the joy in the exploration of learning.

So, I want to expand my understanding of nature and photography, I want to learn how to play an instrument (I think I'll try the ukulele!!), I'm going to finally use the vintage sewing machine my mom bought me over a year ago, and I'm going to begin coding bit by bit. I went with my husband to Barnes and Noble and scuttled around like a small excited child, and he found and bought me this coding book that's actually filled with graphics that are interesting and pretty. I can now genuinely say that I'm excited to expand my nerd knowledge!

I mean really...there are too many exciting things in life not to try, and there's no point sitting in a puddled heap staring into space wondering what to do next (something I do all too often).

Hope you've been doing wonderfully the past week!! I've missed you guys. :)

P.S. I'll be going on a short trip to Austin to reunite with long-lost friends scattered from Texas to California, so I don't think I'll be able to check in until next week. Until then, ciao! Can't wait to catch up agin on Monday!!

I was getting a little worried.

It is normal to get sick after an emotional time...

I hope the family will heal soon.

I am sure he would be pleased that it makes people realise a lot of things through his passing.

I hope this reinvigorates all who knew him to do and try new things like you are going to do. X

Naomi, you're so sweet! I'm really amazed at his family's strength...they're people to look up to, for sure. I hope the same thing. So good to hear from you, dear.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I know that's gotta be really tough, and it's no wonder you were sick afterward. I hope you're feeling better!

Thanks for that coding book recommendation. Pretty sure I'll be adding that to my cart. I've been meaning to get my hands on a decent resource, and this one looks like it has the brains AND the beauty. :)

Have fun in Austin! Catching up with friends is always a good idea! And the ukulele? that sounds awesome! Now is always the best time to start doing the things we always said we would do. "If we wait until we're ready, we'll be waiting for the rest of our lives"

Cassie: Thank you so much! Oh sure, no problem. :) I haven't been able to start it yet, but I can't wait! Hope it works out for you!

Christine: Thank you so much. Really appreciate it!

Jess: Ahh, it was too fun. Lots of tears at the end. Your quote is right on!
