CALIFORNIA TRIP: PART 1

Okay! Here is Part 1 of the trip. I had some serious trouble narrowing down, so I think I'll post outtakes on Facebook.

I didn't mention to you yesterday that we almost missed the most important part of the trip due to a bomb threat in the San Antonio airport. What?? I've never missed a flight because of that bizarre reason. Thankfully, everybody was fine, but I'm sure they were melting in the heat once they were evacuated out of the airport.

The boy and I decided to put our brains together and drive to another airport in Houston so that we we wouldn't miss the first and most crucial day of the trip. Five minutes later, after booking the flight out of Houston, we felt like total morons for not realizing that we could drive a shorter distance to the Austin airport. Fortunately for us, the airlines were able to fix our huge mistake.

The REAL reason we went all the way to California was because a friend of ours was getting married in Walnut Grove...and oh my gosh, it was a gorgeous wedding. Unfortunately, I only got a few steps from the car snapping shots when I realized that my battery had decided to die. I'm just showing you the gates of this crazy place...guys, the wedding was held on the grounds of a mansion. I was kind of in awe, to say the least.

I had to pick up my jaw from the ground every time I blinked.

The ceremony took place behind the gigantic trees (I almost fell over backwards taking photos of them), and then everybody went inside the mansion for the rest of the night to celebrate. My husband and I were able to stay the night in the mansion as opposed to our scary hotel we had excitedly picked out thirty minutes away in Sacramento. Quite the upgrade.

These shots were taken while we were lost and attempting to get off the tiny island of Walnut Grove. See that water? You had to cross bridges to get across to the other side leading to San Francisco, and one of the bridges were closed. That called for a confused (but beautiful) detour. We kept seeing sings for "Sutter," and my husband joked that we were going to be stuck on the island forever. I said it would turn into Shutter Island, ha. Of course that wouldn't happen...it's too pretty.

What amazed me most was the extreme change of climate from one area only twenty minutes away from another area. I'm talking going from 55 degrees to the high 90s. How?? Anyway, being that I'm from Texas, I preferred the heat in Walnut Grove, and I basically froze in San Francisco. I definitely wore out the one pair of skinny jeans and leggings I brought for the trip!

More to come on Monday...

So, what about your weekend coming up? I'm headed to Schiltterbahn to celebrate a sweet friend's birthday tomorrow morning. Extreme heat? Yes. Lots of water? Oh yes! Bring it on.

Leyla: I know!! It was like a fairy tale. I couldn't agree with you more with the scenery!
